The words that follow (in italics) are transcribed verbatim from the journal my father, Lt. Ben H. Rushing, kept during his deployment as a navigator on a B17.

Monday June 15

Got up this morning about 8:30. It is kinda nice. The room and bed was swell & I had a very good night sleep.

Today we have done nothing but lie around & sleep. Sure it nice and comfortable with the heater going & all. Reminds me of the days at Kisatchie when I could go home, build a good fire, and loaf. Wish I could spend some more happy days like those were. They were really OK.
