The words that follow (in italics) are transcribed verbatim from the journal my father, Lt. Ben H. Rushing, kept during his deployment as a navigator on a B17.



Monday June 22, 1942

Nothing new. It is a very nice day for bombing attacks. Would like to get in on one of them, but am going to sleep all day instead. Some of the boys went to an operational squadron. They will be there a week. Guess I will go next week.
