The words that follow (in italics) are transcribed verbatim from the journal my father, Lt. Ben H. Rushing, kept during his deployment as a navigator on a B17.

Sunday June 21, 1942

Beautiful day today. Was warm & nice. Made me think of some of the Sundays at Kisatchie. Gee those were happy days. Went to church this morning. The Chaplain made a very good talk. It was very appropriate at this time in our lives. Told us we should make a decision. We need one now more than at any time in our lives. I enjoyed it such a lot.

This afternoon I went bike riding. Had a small workout. Am so sore I can hardly get about from the football game. Tonite I am going to town to the show.
